More than a hundred years of osteria
Our story
-
The origins
Il Capo and the pevarini
The osteria is more than a hundred years old. It was run by Luigi Giacon, known as “Il Capo” — the chief of the customs guards at the Bassanello bridge toll post. It sold only wine, served with pevarini: pepper biscuits made on purpose to make you drink more. It was the classic Veneto tavern: an old wooden counter, three barrels full of wine, a couple of small tables, and the tram drivers stopping by between shifts.

Post-war years · 1957
The students' spunceti
After the war the management changed hands, and in 1957 the Bordin family added food to the wine service: above all the typical “spunceti” snacks, hugely popular with the university students who made the osteria their regular meeting place.

Today
True to its name
True to its name, the kitchen serves the dishes of the Paduan and Venetian tradition: rabbit alla padovana, salt cod alla veneta, tripe, gnocchi, “musso in tocio” (donkey stew), seasonal vegetable soups served in a bread loaf, and farmyard meats.
